Holloway reveals he has tried to sign Briggs before

Holloway has been a admirer of free agent, Matt Briggs, for a long time.

After his release from Fulham in the early Summer, he has held talks with Huddersfield before a trial stint at Millwall. This isn’t the first time Briggs has gained interest from Holloway: he tried to sign Briggs during his time at Blackpool.

“Briggs is a real surprise to me,” Holloway said. “I can’t believe he’s a free agent. When I was at Blackpool, Fulham wouldn’t loan him out and now it turns out he’s a free agent, which is completely unbelievable. When Mick Harford said to me that Briggs was available I thought he was joking. I said ‘get him in’ and to my disbelief he was there on Tuesday morning. It’s weird. But this is what happens when you’re patient in the transfer market.”

There is room in Holloways squad for a player like Briggs as Scott Malone is the only experienced left back at Millwall. “I’ve got Dylan Casey who I took to Portugal with us but he’s a little bit young,” the Millwall boss said. “He’s got a great attitude but I’m not sure whether he’ll be able to push for the first team right now being only 18. It might be a bit early for Dylan but I do like him.

“When someone of Briggs’ quality comes up it’s no-brainer to have a look at him.”
