Just the sound of this game is enough to send shivers down the neck of some supporters, Englands 7th biggest city boasts one of the meanest rivalries in the UK. For the size of the city it could be argued that in the grand scheme of things Bristol under achieves when it comes to football clubs, the last time either of the teams were in the top division was as far back as 1980. City lead the head to head record with a convincing 44 wins to Rovers’ 29. The most recent encounter came in the Johnstone’s paint trophy in 2013 the cup tie was the first time the sides have met since 2007. The game was a great encounter in which City ran out 2-1 winners with goals from Jay Emmanuel Thomas and local lad Joe Bryan. Bryan’s winner resulted in a pitch invasion at the final whistle in which over 50 people were arrested, the passion of this game was there for all to see.
