5 of the biggest rivalries in the Football League

1) The Steel City derby (Sheffield United v Sheffield Wednesday)

rivalries, 5 of the biggest rivalries in the Football LeagueThis might seem a little biased seen as I am a Sheffield United fan but there is surely no doubting this is one of the biggest derbies in the United Kingdom let alone the football league. With both stadiums holding 32,000+ crowds it’s sure to be a great atmosphere at either Bramall Lane or Hillsborough on derby day. Over the years the games have been pretty equal with United winning 45 and Wednesday just behind on 42, this adds to the tension and passion of the fixture as neither fans know which way the game is going to go. The last match in which these two met was a promotion six pointer in 2012 at Hillsborough in front of a 36,000 sell-out crowd a single goal by Chris O’grady sending the Owls fans home happy. When the red and white and the blue and white of Sheffield meet you know the game is going to be a fierce encounter with both sets of fans singing their hearts out supporting their team. This derby is fit to grace the Premier League and hopefully in the not to distant future both Sheffield teams can make a push for the top division.
