Carl Ikeme– This was Wolves’ first goalless draw since the opening day of the season and their third clean sheet in four league games. In what was an evenly contested affair at Molineux, Wolves can be thankful to Ikeme who made two wonderful saves late on to secure a point for the midlands side.
Peter Hartley, Luke Jones, Jon Ashton- After Stevenage’s fantastic result at London road this weekend all three of their defence make it into the team of the week. The Posh have netted 25 goals this season but the hearty Stevenage back line limited them to just two shots on target and kept a clean-sheet despite having ten men for the last half hour. Peterborough have now lost their last four league games which is not ideal as they head to in-form Brentford on Tuesday night.
Moses Odubajo– The O’s put in another solid display where they came from behind at the County ground to win 1-3 and return to the top of the table. Highly-rated winger Odubajo was a constant threat and added to his impressive record this season which is now five goals and four assists in his 17 league appearances. Orient are now the league’s top scorers and will be doing all they can to keep the 20-year-old at the club who is heavily linked with Tottenham Hotspur.
Max Power– Power performed well against a highly-rated Coventry midfield and rounded off his display with a magnificent through ball to set up Lowe’s second, which he played from inside his own half. Power offers Ronnie Moore great versatility as he can be deployed on either wing and through the middle and will be targeting Wolves’ centre midfield on Tuesday night.
Jason Kennedy– The 27-year-old hasn’t featured for over a month but managed to end Bradford’s poor run and earn them their first win in seven league games. In a game which was dominated by the home side Kennedy made a fantastic run to the far post to slot home the winner in the 85th minute and take the Bantams back inside the top six.
Luke Garbutt– Although primarily a left-back this week he was deployed at left-wing and to devastating effect. Preston dominated the game mustering 26 shots in total along with 14 corners. However, the Everton loanee showed his quality with Colchester’s only shot on target from 25 yards finding the bottom corner and earning them an unlikely point. It was his first goal for the club but the youngster has been creating chances setting up four goals already this season.
Lucas Akins– Strugglers Stevenage were going to need something special to get a result at Peterborough and Akins was the provider, his curling effort from 20 yards was enough to split the sides. He will be looking to build on his first goal of the campaign and try to reach double figures like he managed last season.
Ryan Lowe– Not many fans would of predicted the scalp of Coventry this weekend. The Sky Blues have been in inspired form but were firmly brought back to reality with a 1-5 hammering at Sixfields. The star of the show was veteran Ryan Lowe who netted a hat-trick which included two delightful lobs, one from a fair distance away from goal. Lowe was released by MK Dons during the summer and many doubted whether he could still perform at this level, he is answering his critics and is currently only three goals behind the joint top scorers of the division.
Dave Mooney– It wouldn’t be a team of the week without Dave Mooney who netted another goal at the weekend with a sublime finish. Orient immediately pegged back Swindon with a goal just eight seconds after the restart and meant that Mooney now has more goals than he managed all last season. The game was evenly contested in terms of possession but Orient showed their killer instinct scoring three times with only six shots on target and capitalising on Brentford’s point at Molineux.
