Alan Martin– Martin earned Crewe Alexandra a vital point against a strong Bradford side with several good saves and one fine stop to deny 6ft 4ins striker James Hanson. Crewe managed to stop the rot after losing back to back games against Sheffield United and Stevenage shipping six in the process. It gets tougher for Crewe who travel to Brentford next in the league and will no doubt need their stopper to be on song.
Sam Ricketts– The Welsh international has featured right across the Wolves back line this campaign and has been ever-present in his first season at Molineux. Jackett deployed the defender at right-back this weekend where he excelled and linked up with winger James Henry.
Jordan Clarke– Clarke makes it into the side for the second week running after another fine display at the back. A right-back at heart, the youngster is performing admirably in Pressley’s back line and can record another clean sheet after another solid performance. The 21-year-old has featured in every league game for the Sky Blues this year and fans will be keen to see the youngster take up his one year extension which is available on his current contract.
Shaun Williams– Williams earned the Dons three points with a delightful free-kick which clipped the inside of the post. This was the Dons only shot on target and helped secure a narrow victory over Walsall to go level on points with the Midlands side. The centre-half has been in sublime form this season netting five times and assisting twice in his fourteen league appearances so far.
Blair Adams– Steven Pressley has dubbed Adams one of the unsung heroes this season, the left-back has put in a string of quality performances and he got things going for Coventry at the weekend. Some neat work out wide and a perfect cut-back was finished emphatically by forward Leon Clarke. An impressive win for the Sky Blues and a clean sheet sees Coventry up to 11th and just three points off Bradford City.
James Henry– The Millwall loanee makes the team for the second week after scoring for the third game running to cap another fine performance in a Wolves shirt. Lee Evans found Henry with a lovely chip over the Stevenage defence who turned on the ball and calmly slotted past Chris Day. This was Wolves’ 11th win in 13 league games and they will be looking to take this form to Carlisle on Tuesday night and join Leyton Orient at the top of the table.
Chris Atkinson– Atkinson rounded off a brilliant counter-attack in the 55th minute to put the strugglers up against an in-form Preston side. It was the midfielder’s second league goal of the season and one that could help regain that confidence this side had just 12 months ago. The on-loan Huddersfield man has featured in all 15 league games this season and will want to build on the recent revival which has seen them pick up four points in their last two outings.
Massimo Luongo– Luongo made the permanent switch to Swindon during the summer and the Australian hasn’t looked back since. The midfielder has notched five goals this season and capped a fine performance at the weekend with a brace against Port Vale. His second of the afternoon a real peach, leaving his defender after several step-overs and firing home from a tight angle to seal the victory for the Robins.
Dean Cox- Cox has been one of the star performers in the league this season featuring in all of Orient’s league games so far. The winger has scored five goals this season and assisted seven times making him one of the league’s most valuable midfielders. Kevin Lisbie flicked the ball into the Posh penalty area and Cox made up a lot of ground before lifting a delightful lob over the rushing Robert Olejnik to make the game 1-2. The former Brighton man then switched the play to Dave Mooney who took it down on his chest and lashed the ball home to seal the points for Orient. A top display from the wide-man along with his team-mates as the Orient express looks to pick up more pace.
Dave Mooney– Mooney has been in scintillating form this season and linked up beautifully with strike partner Lisbie at the weekend. Lisbie set up two of the tree goals against Peterborough whilst Mooney scored his tenth and eleventh goal of the campaign. Two impressive strikes from the centre-forward who ended his run of five league games without a goal. This result will send shockwaves to the division and prove that if this Leyton Orient side can stay fit they are definite contenders for promotion this season.
Leon Clarke– The much travelled striker currently sits joint top-scorer with eleven goals this campaign after another quality showing at the weekend. The journeyman powered Adams cross past the Notts keeper and then showed his range of finishing with a delicate chip for his second of the afternoon. The Wolverhampton born striker has also assisted five times and with the ever blossoming partnership with Callum Wilson expect Coventry to keep climbing the table.
