The72 Football League Weekend Awards: Week 11

YOUNG PLAYER OF THE WEEKEND: Demarai Gray – Birmingham City

Birminghams-Demarai-GrayI don’t usually give awards for players on losing teams but rules are made to be broken, Demarai Gray did almost everything but score in his team’s 1-0 loss to Bolton at St. Andrews. He was in almost inspired form, testing the Bolton back-line on every occasion and if it wasn’t for the Bolton keeper and the frame of the goal, he might have won the game on his own.

In the end though it was new Trotters boss Neil Lennon that won the plaudits for his first win as manager, despite being sent off for telling Craig Davis not to take a penalty which looked like managerial genius after the Welshman skied his spot-kick. Gray was incredibly impressive and it’s not the first time, he could be getting a lot of suitors in the summer if the 18-year-old keeps up this kind of form.
