5 things we learned about League 2 this weekend

Cambridge United are back on track

Cambridge promotionAfter an up-and-down start to the season, three defeats at the end of September put Cambridge United on the back foot going into a tough October. However, despite this poor run and falling attendances, the U’s thrashed Burton 3-1 at the Pirelli last week, a side who were also out-of-form, but their astonishing 5-1 over Oxford yesterday is without doubt the best moment of the U’s season so far. Despite Cambridge’s dominance over the course of the game, Oxford were the team who scored first, flying out of the traps to score through Danny Hylton in the 9th minute before Kwesi Appiah netted two late first-half goals. The home side built from there, Appiah turning provider for Ryan Donaldson before Tom Elliot and Robbie Simpson made the scoreline more than comfortable. Cambridge are now League 2’s top scorers, up to 11th and just two points off the top seven; it’s been an impressive return to the Football League.
