The72 Football League Weekend Awards: Week 9

UPSET OF THE WEEKEND: Blackpool 1-0 Cardiff City

François Zoko BlackpoolFriday night was a special night for the seaside club as the side that had just nine players under contract at the start of the season managed to get their first three points of the campaign. A squad pieced together by pipe-cleaners and superglue were excellent against a managerless Cardiff as they showed some real grit and could have won by more on another night.

It’s a great credit to Jose Riga and his managerial ability not only to work under the ridiculous conditions he’s been placed in under Karl Oyston but to have the Tangerines improving week after week. It’s a result that Riga, his players and especially the fan base deserve, who have rightly stuck by their boss and will only be fully content once the Oyston regime has come to an end at Blackpool.
