For the second weekend in succession, Blackburn Rovers put their opponents to the sword. It was also the second weekend in succession that Rovers hit four goals without reply.

Today’s game saw Tony Mowbray’s men tear Derby County apart in a five-minute, first-half blitz where goals from impressive youngster Tyrhys Dolan (11′), midfield warhorse and former Ram Bradley Johnson (12′, 16′) saw them zip to an unassailable 3-0 lead.

Adam Armstrong rounded off the scoring in the second half to make it a 4-0 result on the day against a Derby side that many pundits fancied ahead of this season. Blackburn saw off the Rams in as ruthless a fashion as they did Wycombe last weekend in what many would have argued was a much tougher fixture.

It’s early doors yet, but already Blackburn are 4th in the table and have massively outscored all other teams in the Sky Bet Championship with the 11 goals they have scored over three games. Their nearest team to their tally is league-leading Reading but even the Royals are five goals behind them.

It is such a change from last season’s struggles and inconsistencies when Blackburn spluttered and started to a disappointing 11th-place finish that was seven points shy of the playoff places.

There is a lot of encouragement to be taken from this opening three-game salvo, especially as the talismanic Bradley Dack isn’t fit and playing. It is certainly a start to the campaign that has gotten Rovers fans commenting on Twitter. Here’s what some of them are saying.

Is this goal blast just a flash in the pan for Blackburn Rovers?

Yes.

They’ll soon dry up.

No.

Real deal this season.
