Fleetwood Town have confirmed the signing of Swansea City winger Barrie McKay on their official club website, bringing him in on loan for the duration of the 2020/21 campaign.

Before the closure of the transfer window, Fleetwood Town have moved to bring a familiar face back to Highbury Stadium. Former loan man Barrie McKay has completed a return to Fleetwood Town, rejoining the club in a fresh loan deal.

The club announced the signing on Friday afternoon, bringing him in to bolster Joey Barton’s attacking ranks as they look to build on last season, where they earned a place in the play-offs before being defeated by Wycombe Wanderers.

Upon the confirmation of McKay’s return, the winger spoke to the club’s official website about the move. The former Rangers and Nottingham Forest man said that he is hoping to repay the faith the coaches had in him last season, saying:

“I’m buzzing to be back at Fleetwood, getting back to playing games and trying to help the team.

“It’s good to be back – it’s easy coming back here because you know all the surrounding and all the staff. Most of the players I played with last year are still here so that will make it an easier settling in period.

“Everyone seems to be excited having me back and that was probably the biggest thing for me coming back was the belief I had, not only from the players but the coaching staff last year so hopefully I can repay that.

“I just want to get out there and start playing with the boys. Obviously, they’ve added a lot of good players and they are scoring some goals – hopefully, I can create some for them and score some myself.”

In his first stint with Fleetwood Town, McKay scored two goals and laid on two assists in 10 games across all competitions and will be looking to add to that total this season.
