Weekend Preview: The Championship

Leeds United v Huddersfield Town

Leeds are set to finalise the appointment of Darko Milanic, manager of Sturm Graz, although Neil Redfearn will remain in charge for the game against Huddersfield, who are still looking for their first win of the season.

3113796234Caretaker boss Neil Redfearn should be applauded for the stabilising job he has done in his short stint in charge of the first team. Matters have been focussed firmly on the pitch and Redfearn has got the whole squad working for each other and pulling in the same direction. This was shown in the midweek game at Bournemouth. United were on the back foot for large spells of the first half and after trailing from the 6th minute looked set for defeat at half-time. However, a changed side returned to the pitch in the second half and turned the game on its head with three goals to take the win and send the fans that made the long trip down to the south coast on a Tuesday night into raptures. In his three games in charge, Redfearn has been unbeaten and taken seven points. He will be looking to end his short reign with that record intact and has every chance against the misfiring Huddersfield. Souleymane Doukara has been a driving force for Leeds in recent games and his late goal on the break wrapped up the win at Bournemouth. Doukara is a appears to be a key part of the Leeds attacking force and is this game’s key man.

To date Chris Powell has failed to spark a revolution at Huddersfield and it seems the Terriers just are not getting any luck at the moment. After equalising late against Middlesbrough last weekend there was still enough time for them to concede a penalty and end the game with no points to show for their efforts. However, in midweek Huddersfield did get a point from a goalless draw with Wigan and will want to build on this result as they make the short trip up the M62 to Leeds. So far this season Town have just one win, away at Reading, and keeping goals out appears to be the major problem with just a single clean sheet in their seven Championship games, letting in fifteen goals in their other six games. Powell will be working tirelessly to improve this with work on the training ground and they will certainly fancy their chances of getting a result even against this Leeds side that seem to riding the crest of a wave since David Hockaday was sacked.

Score prediction: 2-1 Leeds win
