PLAYER OF THE WEEKEND: Marc Richards – Northampton Town
A terrific afternoon from the 32-year-old as he scored twice and led his side to a 2-0 victory away from home against Dagenham and Redbridge. Richards grabbed his first goal in the 8th minute by cooly slotting away Kaid Mohammed’s square ball before scoring against 15 minutes later, heading in a Joel Byrom corner.
It was a good result for Chris Wilder against a resurgent Daggers team and it was the kind of game a team looking at promotion need to win so Richard’s contribution was even more valuable. Should the former Chesterfield striker continue in this vein of form, he could help fire Northampton into the automatic promotion places, which might seem like a dream to fans after last season’s relegation worries.
