Michail Antonio – Nottingham Forest
Having signed for £1.5m from Sheffield Wednesday in the summer, Forest fans were unsure what to make of their new recruit Antonio. But the winger has blossomed under Stuart Pearce and, along with fellow newbie Britt Assombolanga, has undoubtably been one of the signings of the summer so far. With three assists and three goals to his name already, Antonio is proving he is more than worthy of the price-tag.
Tom Cairney – Blackburn Rovers
Tom Cairney set the Football League alight with his stunning equaliser against Cardiff City on the opening night of the season. His awareness and ability to distribute the ball from one side of the pitch to another is clearly playing a huge part in Blackburn’s solid start to the season. His second goal, a volley against Norwich, perhaps trumped his first. Whilst Rhodes will grab the headlines, Cairney has been the man to watch so far.
Alan Dunne – Millwall
Club-captain Dunne has been an integral part of Millwall’s positive start to this year’s Championship campaign. Along with Nottingham Forest, The Lions have conceded the least amount of goals in the divisions (3) and it’s clear to see that Dunne has been the focal point of Millwall’s defence so far. If Ian Holloway’s men are to continue their fine start to season, it will be largely down to the performances of one of their main men.
Igor Vetokele – Charlton
New signing Vetokele is rapidly proving himself to be one of the biggest hotshots in The Chamionship. The Angolan is joint-top scorer in the division, scoring 5 goals already and helping Charlton move into the play-offs. The striker is a real fox in the box, something that The Addicks have lacked for at least a year or so. He may not have been everyone’s first pick for Golden Boot at the start of the season, but he’ll be one of the favourites now.
