Sheffield Wednesday have completed the loan signing of Netherlands international winger Royston Drenthe. The deal will run until January 2nd with the option of extending the deal until the end of the season. Sky Sports journalist Pete O’Rourke broke the news of the deal this afternoon. The signing appears to have completely out of the blue with no previous reported interest in the Reading flop.

Since the sale of fellow wideman Michel Antonio to Championship rivals Nottingham Forest earlier this month, Wednesday have been in the market for a winger to provide pace and power on the flanks and on his day Drenthe certainly fits this bill. Reading have seen nowhere enough of this during his team at the club and it will be a relief to see him depart for may Royals fans.

Drenthe has been capped by the Netherlands at full international level so his talent is unquestionable but his attitude and work ethic is what has held back a career that has seen him turn out for Real Madrid in the past. Wednesday fans are hoping that the club can unlock his immense talent and continue their impressive start to the league season.
