Championship Weekend Preview

Leeds United v Bolton Wanderers

It seemed inevitable from the start but Leeds United are looking for a new manager before the first month of the season has even concluded. They host Bolton who are yet to claim a win in the league this season.

No-one could honestly have predicted that David Hockaday would have seen out the season at the helm but few expected it to end so soon. Although when Massimo Cellino came out and said he was going to sack him after last week’s defeat at Watford before he changed his mind, Hockaday’s fate was all but sealed. Another defeat, at the hands of Bradford in the League Cup spelled the end and Cellino starts his search for a new head coach, however realistically it will be him who has control of this squad and that is not a good thing. Saying this Elland Road could be bouncing if United can get on top early and with opponents Bolton yet to win this season there is no better side to play. Billy Sharp has proved a handful already for Leeds and could add to his goal tally. He is this game’s key man.

After just about surviving in the Championship last season there were hopes at Bolton that this season would be one of progression towards the top end of the table. So far it has not quite gone to plan for Dougie Freedman with just one point on the board from four games. There is a long time to go, however the Bolton squad looks thin and lacking that spark of talent needed to win the tight games in this division. It could be another long season and not for the right reasons for Wanderers.

Score prediction: 3-0 Leeds win
