Along with me, I’m sure many football fans are hoping this season is the start of Portsmouth’s climb back up the Football League. A brilliant start to the season currently leaves Pompey second in the division. The Portsmouth defence is going to be a massive key to the promotion push, after four league games they’ve only conceded twice. Another key to the promotion challenge is making sure teams fear the trip to Fratton Park, continuing were they left off last season you have to go back to beginning of March 2014 for the last time Portsmouth lost at Fratton Park. Newport County currently sit just above the relegation zone of League Two and will no doubt be fighting the drop this season. Newport’s last win away from home was March 2014 and with only one point to their name so far a trip down to promotion chasing Portsmouth could prove too tough for Newport.
