Norwich City 3-1 Crawley Town: Match Report and Player Ratings

This weeks game saw a young Norwich City side coast past Crawley Town with a 3-1 win.

Crawley Town caused Norwich some problems in the second half but Norwich easily came out on top in the end bagging three goals against the League One outfit. A debut goal from Cameron Jerome saw Norwich go into the break with the lead. Josh Murphy doubled Norwich’s lead on the 50th minute with a driven shot into the bottom corner of Jensen’s net.

An own-goal from another Norwich debutant, Carlos Cuellar, made for a nervy half hour before Josh Murphy sealed the win with his second goal of the game – a terrific strike from 20 yards.


Norwich City

Rudd – Some key saves from the young Norwich ‘keeper, one of which arguably stopped the game from heading into extra-time. 6.5
Martin – A relatively poor game from the Norwich captain. He was beaten far too often by the Crawley left winger. 6.0
McFadden – A first team début for the 19 year old had a reasonable game, nothing outstanding, but also no costly mistakes. 6.0
Cuellar – A very up and down performance from another débutante. An own goal the major negative but he made up for it with some key challenges. 6.0
Whittaker – A strong performance from the Scotsman after a number of relatively poor performances in the league. 6.5
Surman – A surprise appearance in Adams’ side as he has been heavily linked with a move away. Despite the rumours, Surman had a strong game, dictating most of the play in the midfield. 6.5
Bennett – Being played out of position Bennett had a reasonable game, but often found himself drifting out to the right wing leaving space in the centre of the park that Crawley tried to exploit. 6.0
Jacob Murphy – A strong performance on the wing, linked very well with his twin Josh. Jacob got the assist for Norwich’s second goal. 7.0
Josh Murphy – Man of the match performance from one of the brightest sparks in the current Norwich squad. Scored twice and was a constant threat running at the Crawley back four. 8.0
Jerome – Arguably the best of the débutantes in the Norwich team, bagged himself a goal and was used as a target man for the long balls. 7.0
Loza – Another Norwich youngster, another bright performance. Ran at the Crawley defence with pace, poor final product however. 6.0

Substitutions

Hall-Johnson – Another lively début coming on in place of Jacob Murphy. 6.0
Becchio – The seemingly forgotten man within the Norwich fans. Ineffective when coming on despite the ovation from the fans. 5.0

Crawley Town

Jensen – Poor performance from the experience ‘keeper who’s mistake lead to the opening goal of the game 5.5
Oyebanjo – Done well breaking forward down the right hand side. Struggled to cope with the attacking threat of the Murphy twins. 6.0
Leacock – An strong performance form the centre-half dealing with everything thrown his way in the form of long balls and crosses. 6.5
Walsh – Another solid performance in the heart of the defence alongside Leacock. Dealt well with the physical threat of Jerome. 6.5
Dickson – The ex-Southampton left-back had a relatively poor game trying to cope with the pace of the ever switching Murphy twins. 5.5
Edwards – An everage game from a player who done very littler to effect the game in any way. 6.0
Smith – The ex-Norwich player returned to Carrow Road and had a reasonable game in the centre of the park, linking defence with attack well. 6.5
Henderson – A good performance from the player who recently arrived at Crawley from Hull. Put in a dangerous cross that ended with Cuellar putting the ball into his own net. 7.0
Bawling – Another player who went under the radar with an ineffective performance. No major mistakes but nothing to excite the travelling Crawley fans. 5.5
Young – Caused the Norwich defence some problems in the first half alongside McLeod. 6.0
McLeod – A bright performance from McLeod as he caused the Norwich defence some real problems with his pace breaking inside from both wings. 7.5

Substitutions

Tomlin – Came on for Young and caused some problems with his pace. 6.0
 O’Connor – An ineffective performance coming off the bench for Bawling. 5.0

Man of the match

Josh Murphy had an excellent game scoring two goals and causing untold problems for the Crawley back four. 8.0
