According to a report from the Newcastle Chronicle, Newcastle United have told former Nottingham Forest loan man Jack Colback not to come back to training with the club, with the midfielder’s situation said to have caught the attention of Forest.
Midfielder Jack Colback has been out of favour at Newcastle United for some time now. The 30-year-old has not made a senior appearance for the Magpies since they won promotion back to the Premier League in May 2017.
Colback was deemed surplus to requirements by Rafael Benitez upon Newcastle’s return to the top flight and in January of 2018, he made a loan move to Nottingham Forest. He played 16 times in his first stint for the club and at the end of the first deal, Colback returned for a second spell. Overall, Colback has played in 55 matches for Nottingham Forest, scoring four goals and laying on two assists.
Now, with Newcastle United returning to training ahead of the Premier League’s return, Colback has been told not to report back to training. The midfielder is out of contract this summer and having been told not to come back is effectively free to look for a new club.
The report from the Newcastle Chronicle says that Colback’s situation with the club “will pique the interest of Nottingham Forest” after a previously successful time with the club.
It will be interesting to see if Nottingham Forest do revisit their interest in Colback. He already lives in Nottingham and has an affiliation with the fans, but it awaits to be seen if Sabri Lamouchi can see the Newcastle midfielder fitting into his system at the City Ground.
