Freddie Woodman ready to push Swansea City into play-offs

Swansea City’s Freddie Woodman has told the club website that he wants to finish the season by pushing them into the play-offs.

The Sky Bet Championship had been suspended since March but after a long wait, the future of this season has been decided. The EFL has set a provisional timetable which will see the next set of fixtures being played on the 20th June, in line with the also recently stated return of the Premier League.

This means teams can concentrate on their end of season targets. For Swansea, that is finishing in the play-off places and competing in the end of season lottery. They are currently 11th in the Championship and just three points off 6th placed Preston North End. And now Woodman, a 23-year-old goalkeeper who is currently on loan at the Swans from Newcastle United, has said that is keen to make sure that they are in the top six by the end of the season.

Woodman said: “I came a few days before the start of the season so I didn’t have much time to adapt. But, on reflection, I think it went very smoothly working with Marge (Martyn Margetson),”

“The club had a new head coach and Marshy (Mike Marsh) as assistant, while big players like Oli McBurnie and Daniel James left too, amongst others, so it was a big change for the club.

“So to have nine games left to play and be just three points off the play-offs I think it’s been a very positive season so far.

“The big word in this league is consistency. Everyone wants it, but it’s hard to do. Whoever accomplishes that in the remaining nine games will be in the play-offs.

“If we can get into the play-offs and, hopefully, a memorable day at Wembley then that would be the perfect way to finish my loan.”
