Blackburn Rovers captain one of three Championship players to return positive COVID-19 test

Speaking to the club’s official website, Blackburn Rovers captain Elliott Bennett has confirmed that he is one of the three Championship players to have tested positive for COVID-19 after the second batch of testing.

Coronavirus testing of club staff and players has been taking place recently as the Championship step up their efforts to return to action. Now, after the second batch of testing, it has been confirmed that three Championship players have tested positive for COVID-19.

The Daily Mail has reported that two Fulham players have also tested positive and Blackburn Rovers midfielder and captain Elliott Bennett is the third. Blackburn confirmed the news on their official club website on Thursday.

Upon the confirmation, Bennett spoke to the club’s official website to pass a message on to fans confirming that he feels okay and is asymptomatic and feeling no ill-effects. He said:

“I feel fit and healthy. Hopefully, this sends out a positive message to the community that perhaps many people have or have had the virus without showing any effects.

“I obviously would never have known if we hadn’t returned to training and taken the tests because I don’t feel unwell and have got no symptoms whatsoever.

“There seems to have been a lot of hysteria about footballers returning to training, but it’s not a big deal at all. It’s the people who are seriously ill in hospital that we need to worry about, not footballers who are fit and healthy, and who aren’t showing any signs of being unwell.”
