Brentford face Ligue 1 competition for 19-year-old Red Star winger
According to a report from French news outlet Le10Sport, Brentford are alongside Ligue 1 trio AS Saint-Etienne, FC Lorient and RC Strasbourg in holding interest in young red Star winger Said Arab.
Brentford have enjoyed plenty of success when recruiting from France in recent years. The likes of Said Benrahma and Bryan Mbeumo are part of the Bees’ deadly front three, with Ollie Watkins playing through the middle. Neal Maupay – who went on to make a big-money move to Brighton – was also brought in from France.
Now, reports have claimed that Brentford have identified another young French starlet as a potential transfer target. French news outlet Le10Sport has claimed that winger Said Arab – currently playing for Parisian side Red Star – is on the Bees’ radar ahead of the summer transfer window.
Brentford are not the only team reported to be interested in Arab this summer. Ligue 1 sides FC Lorient and RC Strasbourg are also said keen on the 19-year-old.
While the aforementioned trio have only been linked, AS Saint-Etienne are reported to be in “very advanced negotiations” over a deal for Arab. However, the interest from Brentford, Lorient and Strasbourg have apparently “disturbed his choice”. Arab’s deal expires this summer and as it stands is poised to become a free agent.
Arab has made his breakthrough into senior football this season. He spent time in the youth academies of PSG and FC Metz before joining Red Star last summer. In total, the youngster has played in 15 games across all competitions, scoring one goal and laying on two assists in the process.
