Nottingham Forest had “seven-figure” January bid for Ligue 2 defender rejected

As per a report from French publication Le Parisien, Nottingham Forest had a “seven-figure” bid for FC Chambly defender Oumar Gonzalez turned down in the January transfer window.

In the January transfer window, Nottingham Forest were able to pull off a total of three signings, bringing in Adama Diakhaby, Nuno Da Costa and Gaetan Bong to strengthen their ranks for the second half of the season. Now, it has been claimed the club were hoping to add a fourth.

French news outlet Le Parisien has claimed that Ligue 2 side FC Chambly turned down a seven-figure bid from Nottingham Forest for Cameroonian defender Oumar Gonzalez. Forest failed in their bid for the defender, but they were not alone.

The report claims that sides from the Italian Serie A, Dutch Eredivisie and Turkish Super Lig also tried to sign Gonzalez in January. It was Nottingham Forest who are said to have made the biggest offer but FC Chambly were unwilling to let the defender leave in the middle of the season and he remained with the club.

Gonzalez, 22, has been with Chambly for almost a whole year now. He joined the club last summer after his release from FC Metz. Since signing, Gonzalez has played in 22 games across all competitions, scoring one goal and laying on one assist in the process. Gonzalez is comfortable on the ball and is said to have developed well since his departure from Metz. His deal with the club expires at the end of the season (Transfermarkt).

Now, it will be interesting to see if Gonzalez attracts fresh interest this summer. Nottingham Forest fans, would you like the club to reignite their interest in the centre-back this summer? Let us know in the poll below.
