Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa has won many plaudits due to his tactics and man-management and not only from Whites supporters. As reported by Leeds Live, Bielsa also has another fan – this time from Manchester City.

Benjamin Mendy has been full of praise for the Argentinian with whom he played under whilst at French side Marseille.

Mendy has thanked Bielsa for helping him develop as a player and for nurturing him during his youth. The Frenchman also likened Bielsa to his current manager Pep Guardiola – some praise considering his CV.

Bielsa and Mendy could find themselves both in the Premier League next season with the Yorkshire giants on the verge of promotion before the suspension of the campaign due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

Discussing the impact on his career, Mendy said: “Bielsa was amazing, he helped me a lot. Still today, we keep talking.”

“I watched him and I was in love with the tactics. I think they are similar. They like to have the ball, and when we lose the ball to do high pressing.”

“Yeah, I think that’s it. Before I moved to Man City, I was working with Bielsa and I asked him what he thinks. I feel the message, when I talk with Pep I know that Bielsa told me that.”

Bielsa has been touted as a real tactical genius even more so since he arrived in England and Leeds will need to ensure they win promotion if they want to be certain of keeping the Argentinian at the club.
