Bradford City announce their retained and released list – 10 players to go

Bradford City was a side that many thought would sweep through League Two and straight back into League One at the first chance. Their strikeforce alone (Eoin Doyle, James Vaughan and Clayton Donaldson) should have been worth 40 goals between them at least.

Eoin Doyle, did score a hatful, but that was for Swindon on loan – for whom he eventually signed for in January. Vaughan was good for the goals but he too left the club in January, signing for Tranmere on loan. That just left local lad Donaldson from the original trio.

That ‘rebound theory’ proved to be flawed and the Bantams were victims of their own inconsistency. Brilliant one week, dithering the next, City stumbled and blazed their way from game to game in equal measure.

When COVID-19 called a halt to football, City were four points shy of the playoff places on 54 points. Next season is all about rebuilding and regrouping as they look for a way to get out of League Two.

Today Bradford City published their ‘released and retained list’ which contains the following 10 players being let go at the end of their current deals which expire at the end of June.

Bradford City – released player list:

  • Kelvin Mellor
  • Jake Reeves
  • Shay McCartan
  • Jordan Gibson
  • Jermaine Anderson
  • Hope Akpan
  • Adam Henley
  • Daniel Devine
  • Joe Riley
  • George Sykes-Kenworthy
