Dickie, Fulham, Middlesbrough and Reading in pursuit of Oxford United defender

Fulham, Middlesbrough and Reading in pursuit of Oxford United defender

Fulham, Middlesbrough and Reading are all interested in signing Oxford United’s Robert Dickie according to a report from the Mirror.

The U’s have had a fantastic season and before the season was suspended by the Coronavirus pandemic, they were third in Sky Bet League One. They are waiting to see what happens with the rest of the season but there is a chance they might be promoted without kicking a ball, though they may also still have to go through the play-offs.

One of the stand-out individuals during this run towards the top of League One has been Dickie. The 24-year-old defender, who has been capped once by the England U19s, has been a top player for Oxford this season. He has been utilised as a ball-playing centre-back and he has come in for a lot of praise during this season.

But now Oxford will have to try and fend off interest in Dickie as three Sky Bet Championship teams are plotting to swoop for him. He started his career at Reading before leaving in 2018 but the Royals are interested in bringing him back to the Madejski Stadium. Also looking to sign Dickie are their Championship rivals Fulham and Middlesbrough. All three teams have been impressed with him over this season and will try to sign him during this summer.

The problem for Oxford is because of their lack of revenue due to the Coronavirus, they may be forced to sell Dickie and other players to get some money in so the club can continue to operate.
