Leeds United wanted Southampton striker, and former Birmingham City star, Che Adams in January. A firm bid was put in but it was equally firmly rejected by Saints with boss Ralf Hassenhutl stating Adams was a firm part of his plans. Instead, the Whites plumped for Red Bull Leipzig striker Jean-Kevin Augustin.

Augustin had been on loan at French glamour club AS Monaco from RB Leipzig. Leeds convinced the German side to allow him to move to Elland Road on loan with a compulsory obligation to purchase if promoted to the Premier League.

Since signing on at Elland Road in January, the solidly-built Frenchman featured in just three games for the Whites. These three appearances, all from the bench, against Nottingham Forest (19′), Brentford (14′) and Bristol City (15′) total just 48 minutes and he’s been out since appearing on the bench for the Reading game with a hamstring twinge.

However, the COVID-19 lockdown has allowed the big French striker to not only get back to match fitness but also to get Bielsa-fit. The Whites tweeted a series of pictures of him in training (below) which have gotten fans talking:

A trim-looking Augustin can be seen being put through his paces and he really does look a totally different player. From the more chiselled look to him, down to the aesthetics of his new hairstyle, he is a different Jean-Kevin Augustin to the one that Leeds signed.

It was a post that, in these news-starved times, was bound to gain a response from Leeds United fans. They certainly didn’t disappoint – here are some of their responses.

Seems some are worried that outside influences may have played their part on this Augustin change:

Mad Gjanii aside, fans really are genuinely excited about this and the hopes for the big French striker.

There’s a lot of love for his ‘do:

Will Jean-Kevin Augustin be a big hit over the last nine games of the season?

Yes, definitely.

He is going to smash it!

Hard to say.

Depends on game time.

No, definitely not.

He’s one for next season.
