“No brainer” Leeds United interest in Spurs defender backed by pundit

Speaking to Football Insider, former Sunderland and Birmingham City striker Kevin Phillips has tipped Leeds United to make a move for Spurs defender Juan Foyth this summer, after rumours emerged earlier this month.

Earlier this month, a report from Football Insider claimed that Leeds United could look to make a move for Spurs defender Juan Foyth if they were to win promotion to the Premier League.

Leeds will be in need of a new centre-back this summer. Ben White has been a star performer this season but is only at Elland Road on a temporary basis. It awaits to be seen what parent club Brighton and Hove Albion have planned for White but a return to the club could be unlikely.

Foyth has been mentioned as a potential signing to come in and bolster Marcelo Bielsa’s defensive ranks and now, pundit and former striker Kevin Phillips has weighed in on the rumour. Speaking to Football Insider, Phillips has said it is “almost a no-brainer” for Leeds, saying it is a deal he could see happening. He said:

“I like Foyth.  He has shown that he can play in the Premier League, it does not faze him.

“If Ben White moves on then you are at least replacing him with Premier League experience. He is a good player but there is question marks over whether he is the same calibre as Ben White.

“A run of games would certainly benefit him. It has been a while since he has played regularly but I like the qualities he possesses.

“I could definitely see that one happening. It is almost a no-brainer. If they could get that over the line it would be a good deal because it would not cost a fortune.”

Foyth has been with Spurs since joining the club in the summer of 2017 from Argentinian side Estudiantes. In almost three years, Foyth has played in 32 games across all competitions for Spurs, scoring one goal in the process. He has appeared only seven times this season, seemingly falling down the pecking order under Jose Mourinho.

Is Foyth a player you would like to see Leeds sign this summer?
