Last week, The Sun reported that Manchester United’s highly-rated young midfielder James Garner is attracting interest from Championship pair Sheffield Wednesday and Swansea City.

Sheffield Wednesday and Swansea City are no strangers to using the loan market. The Owls have brought in the likes of Jacob Murphy and Connor Wickham from Newcastle United and Crystal Palace respectively this season, while Swansea City have signed Freddie Woodman, Conor Gallagher and Rhian Brewster on loan, all coming in from Premier League clubs.

Now, reports have emerged claiming the Championship pair could look to dip into the Premier League loan market once again this summer, with The Sun claiming Manchester United starlet James Garner is on their radars.

Amid the reports, we take a closer look into the Red Devils starlet and what he could bring to either Sheffield Wednesday or Swansea City.

Garner has spent his entire career with Manchester United and he has started to appear in the first-team picture over the course of the 2019/20 campaign. The 19-year-old has registered a total of six appearances this season, appearing in four of United’s Europa League Group Stage matches.

Garner plays his best football in a defensive midfield role but his stats for the club’s youth sides show he has an eye for getting forward as well. He netted eight goals in 10 Premier League 2 appearances earlier this year, also wearing the captain’s armband for the Red Devils’ second-string side.

The young midfielder is a calming presence when on the ball, looking to keep it ticking in the middle of the park while also looking to start attacks with through balls and diagonal passes. Garner also shows his strengths in interceptions and tackles – see his challenge which led to Manchester United’s 2nd goal against AZ Alkmaar for a perfect example.

At just 19, Garner clearly has the potential to be a top player. A loan move to either Sheffield Wednesday or Swansea City would be beneficial for the young midfielder, allowing him to gather more senior experience. Owls and Swans fans, is Garner a player you would like to see your club sign this summer?
