Gillingham sign Hoyte on short-term deal

Gills boss Peter Taylor has has signed former Arsenal man, Gavin Hoyte, on a five month deal.

After failing to agree a new contract with Dagenham & Redbridge, Gavin Hoyte became a free agent and was then snapped up quickly by Gillingham.

The 24 year-old defender will play for the League One side until January as they look to get their campaign off on the right foot.

Hoyte began his playing career with Arsenal, where he made four appearances before going on to have loan spells with Lincoln, Brighton, Watford and AFC Wimbledon.

The defender is unlikely to make his Gills debut on Tuesday against Swindon but should be available for their clash against Barnsley at the weekend.

Manager Peter Taylor told the club’s official website: “I’m pleased to have Gavin on board – he has trained with us for a couple of weeks and has a lot of games under his belt.

“After looking at him we have decided to offer him a contract until the middle of January, I am looking forward to working with him.”
