Whatever happened to… former Birmingham City and Wigan Athletic winger Jean Beausejour

Ex-Chile international Jean Beausejour enjoyed a successful time in England from 2010 to 2014.

He won the League Cup with Birmingham City in 2011 and then the FA Cup with Wigan Athletic two years later.

Beausejour, who is now 35 years old, moved to the UK to join Birmingham ten years ago from Mexican side Club America after impressing in the World Cup in South Africa.

He had also previously had spells at Gremio, Gent and O’Higgins before rocking up in the Midlands.

The winger, who could also play left-back, was a regular for the Blues in his two seasons at the club. He played in the League Cup final in their shock win over Arsenal.

Birmingham and Beausejour were relegated to the Championship but played in the Europa League after their cup triumph.

He was handed a Premier League lifeline by Wigan Athletic in January 2012 and spent two-and-a-half years at the DW Stadium. Beausejour was injured for the FA Cup final when the Latics beat Manchester City at Wembley.

Where is he now?

Beausejour signed for Club Universidad de Chile in 2016 and remains there today. They are the club where his career first started and are his local side.

He retired from international duties last year having racked up 107 caps and played in two World Cups.
