Preview: Rotherham United v Watford

Team news

The Millers could be without Saturday’s match winner Ryan Hall who picked up an injury to his foot in the aftermath of the goal. Rotherham will again be with full backs Frazer Richardson (foot) and Mark Bradley (knee). The match may also have come to soon for Febian Brandy who is still struggling for full match fitness. Kieran Agard could return to the starting eleven after being left out on Saturday due to the collapse of his move to Leeds United. The Hornets will be without defender Joel Ekstrand who was sent off in their 3-0 defeat to Norwich. Watford have no fresh injury concerns from the weekend but could make changes due to the manner of the defeat on Saturday.

Away day blues?

Watford have only won one away league since the 5th of October last year. The Hornets however do like this patch. That solitary away win was a 4-1 success at the home of Rotherham’s South Yorkshire rivals Sheffield Wednesday. In fact, three of Watford’s four away wins last season all came in Yorkshire where they only lost one game last term, a 2-1 defeat to Doncaster Rovers. In contrast the Millers haven’t lost at home since New Year’s Day where they were beaten 3-1 by Coventry City.

The Millers haven’t had a lot of the ball in their previous two league games with 33% of it in both games and you would expect it will be a similar story tomorrow evening. Therefore they need to make the most of possession when won and in Paul Green they have a man to do it. He has a good work rate and covers a lot of ground and give players very little to time to settle on the ball. He’s a strong tackler and also a good passer of the ball his performance in the Millers’ engine room will be pivotal to their chances of collecting three more precious points.

Troy Deeney (Watford

Troy Deeney celebrates Holly

Deeney is a big powerful striker with a deadly eye for goal which showed last season when he bagged 24 goals. His fine form over recent seasons has made him a key target to a number of Premier League clubs including Leicester City, Hull City and Burnley. The Hornets however have made it clear they want him to stay and reignite his partnership with Matej Vydra which was so instrumental to the Hornets 3rd place finish two seasons ago and the partnership could, as it so often is; prove decisive tomorrow evening.
