Defences might keep scores low and opposition at bay but you aren’t going to get very far if you don’t have players who can do the business at the other end of the pitch and make the opposition’s net bulge.

There are many potent attacking partnerships in the Sky Bet Championship. Here are the top five of those pairings of goals plus assists.

Brentford: Ollie Watkins (22 goals/three assists) and Bryan Mbeumo (14 goals/seven assists) – 36 goals
Highly-rated former Exeter City forward Watkins continues to impress with his 22 goal barrage from just 37 Championship games this season. The Torbay-born 24-year-old is really picking up the plaudits and glances from sides in the Premier League. He is ably assisted from French winger Mbuemo, an exciting 20-year-old who arrived this season from French side Troyes in early-August last year for around £5.8million. His first season in English football has seen him pick up 14 goals and seven assists in his 34 appearances.

Fulham: Aleksander Mitrovic (23 goals/one assist) and Tom Cairney (eight goals/three assists) – 31 goals
Another deadly duo is Serbian striker Mitrovic and Nottingham-born attacking midfielder Cairney. Mitrovic was expected to score in the Championship and he hasn’t disappointed with 23 goals in 3rd place Fulham’s games thus far this campaign. He’s been supported by Cairney who continues to show his consistency with a further eight goals this season from his 33 appearances giving the Cottagers duo a shared 31 goals for the campaign.

QPR: Nakhi Wells (13 goals/three assists) and Eberechi Eze (12 goals/eight assists) – 25 goals
Third in the table of destructive duos in the Sky Bet Championship are Wells and Eze. Wells had 13 goals to his name from his 34 appearances this season with QPR during his loan from Burnley and before he headed to Bristol City on a £4.3million transfer. The impressive 12-goal haul from 21-year-old Eze makes that 25 goals for the former QPR teammates.

Barnsley: Cauley Woodrow (14 goals/two assists) and Conor Chaplin (10 goals/four assists) – 24 goals
Struggling Barnsley, who are bottom of the table, don’t seem to have much of a problem at one end of the pitch, not if the returns from Woodrow and Chaplin are anything to go by. 25-year-old Woodrow, a January 2019 buy from Fulham has 14 goals from 31 appearances this season so far and is supported by the 10 goals in 35 appearances from former Coventry striker Chaplin; the two forming a 24-goal deadly partnership up front.

Nottingham Forest: Lewis Grabban (17 goals/two assists) and Jo Lolley (seven goals/seven assists) – 24 goals
Grabban, was a 2018, £6.1million buy from Premier League side Bournemouth, continues to prove his worth in front of goal for Forest with his 17 strikes this season from 36 appearances. He has been ably assisted by Redditch-born Lolley who has weighed in with seven goals to create a 24 goal deadly duo that has driven Forest to 5th in the Championship table.
