Portsmouth plotting permanent move for Birmingham City defender Steve Seddon

Portsmouth are plotting a bid to sign Birmingham City defender Steve Seddon on a permanent deal, as per a report by The Portsmouth News.

The left-back joined the League One side on loan in the January transfer window and has impressed in his 16 appearances.

Seddon, who is 22 years old, still has another year left to run on his contract at Birmingham but could be set for a permanent switch to Portsmouth if they can get their man this summer.

The Berkshire-born man has found first-team opportunities hard to come by at St. Andrew’s and the Blues may cash in on him over the coming months for the right offer.

Seddon started his career at Reading and rose up through their youth ranks before swapping for Championship rivals Birmingham in 2014. He has gone on to play five times for the Midlands club at senior level.

He was loaned out to League Two side Stevenage for the first-half of the 2018/19 season to gain some regular first-team football and ended up finishing that campaign with AFC Wimbledon in the third tier.

Seddon finds himself back in League One now with Portsmouth and could be in line for a permanent move to Kenny Jackett’s side with the way things are going.

Pompey are 4th in the league and two points off the automatic promotion places if/when the season does resume, giving themselves a good chance of getting to the Championship.
