Swansea City and Cardiff City targeting Huddersfield Town loanee Chris Willock

Swansea City and Cardiff City are interested in a move for Benfica midfielder Chris Willock, according to a report by Football Insider.

The ex-England Under-20 international is currently on loan in the Championship at Huddersfield Town and has impressed for the Terriers since his move there in the January transfer window.

Willock, who is 22 years old, could be the subject of a transfer tug of war this summer with Welsh rivals Cardiff and Swansea looking to bring him in.

The London-born midfielder started his career at Arsenal and rose up through the youth ranks with the Gunners. He made his first-team debut in a League Cup tie against Nottingham Forest in September 2016, though that turned out to be his only senior appearance for the Premier League side.

Benfica swooped to sign him on a five-year deal in June 2017 but he has since struggled for game time with the Portuguese giants. He was loaned out to West Bromwich Albion for the first-half of this season but switched to Huddersfield in January due to a lack of opportunities at the Hawthorns.

Willock has found a home with Danny Cowley’s side and is enjoying his first taste of regular senior football.

Cardiff boss Neil Harris will be a busy man this summer as he looks to bolster his Bluebirds side and he will see Willock as someone who would boost his midfield options. He will have to bat away interest from rivals Swansea and his current side Huddersfield for his signature though.
