Leeds United star Kalvin Phillips stresses importance of clean sheet against Bristol City

Leeds United star Kalvin Phillips has stressed the importance of their clean sheet against Bristol City last weekend with it being key to picking up the victory in an interview with LUTV.

The Yorkshire side were dominant and were always on the front foot but didn’t manage to score more than the solitary goal although Phillips believes the clean sheet was just as important and really boosted the confidence of the team.

“Yes, I think it’s massive. We haven’t had a clean sheet for a while, conceded too many goals from after Christmas. The clean sheet was massive for us and we were very happy with it.”

Phillips concedes that his side have conceded too many goals since the turn of the year and that this needs to improve if they are to ensure they maintain their push for promotion to the Premier League.

Leeds will be looking to continue their season with another clean sheet when they host Reading at Elland Road on Saturday in a game they will be aiming to win to keep pace with league leaders West Bromwich Albion.

Manager Marcelo Bielsa is renowned for sticking with a tried and tested line up but should the outcome of Kiko Casilla’s FA charge in regards to racial allegations made against him, he may be forced to make a change in goal.

Illan Meslier is likely to deputise for Casilla should he be found guilty and banned but Bielsa has already confirmed that he has complete faith in the young goalkeeper.
