West Brom manager Slaven Bilic warns that there will be no complacency in promotion race

West Bromwich Albion boss Slaven Bilic has warned that there will be no complacency from his side during the promotion run-in as reported by the Express & Star.

Albion have taken 10 points from a possible 12 and won three of their last four games following a mid-season slump during December and January.

Bilic has stated that there is no room for any complacency between now and the end of the season as they aim to retain top spot in the Championship.

“We cannot rest and say we are great,” Bilic said. “Unfortunately it’s not the last day of the season. We felt it. We felt it very recently. We didn’t do anything deliberately.”

“And if you asked me what happened – OK we had some injuries. But what happened? Nobody knows really. But it did happen so we have our eyes wide open. We have to concentrate and be humble. And we also have to be strong.”

West Brom’s recent good form alongside stuttering results from some of their promotion rivals has allowed them to open up a four-point gap on Leeds United and a seven-point cushion over third-placed Fulham.

However, Bilic believes that it is harder to be ahead than to be one of the chasing pack. “It is much easier to be third, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh than first or second,” he said.

“If you read about Forest they are dreaming, Brentford are hoping to get into the top two. But when you are top two you have to win promotion. That is a pressure you have to cope with. Of course you wouldn’t swap, of course, you wouldn’t. They would swap with us, but it is easier.”

West Brom still have four of their rivals to face before the end of the season and they will be aiming to maintain their recent good results to ensure they are a Premier League team come the end of the campaign.
