Leeds United Phillips ‘interest’ called into question after agent tweet

The rise of Kalvin Phillips through the ranks at Leeds United leaves a warm glow in the hearts of Whites fans. Of course, his transformation under Marcelo Bielsa has brought big teams circling with some outlets commenting about his ‘release clause’ which has been questioned by his agent Kevin Sharp on Twitter.

Phillips is s a local lad, Wortley-born, and there’s no better feeling than a local lad playing for his local team. He’s been reinvented by Bielsa since being converted from a box-to-box midfielder to a deep-laying defensive midfield rock who can stop opposition attacks with tenacious tackling as well as being that impetus that gets the Whites on the front foot.

Former Leeds United player Michael Brown, in conversation with Football Insider, has reportedly said that his [Phillips] contracted release clause is higher than what has been quoted in the Press. In the above article, Brown is quoted as saying of Phillips’ release clause meant to be around the £20million: “It’s more than that. Much more, yes.”

Football Insider, through reporter Wayne Veysey, also say that Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham are looking to build on ‘interest’ from last summer and take advantage of any Leeds United slip up in their current promotion charge which would mean them staying in the Championship for another season. Manchester United are also said by some sources to be interested in the formidable midfielder.

However, all the talk of ‘release clauses’ and ‘interested others’ is put into context by a tweeted reply by Kalvin Philips’ agent, Kevin Sharp.

Sharp’s words are as blunt a testimony as is needed on the subject of any release clause in Kalvin Phillips’ recently-signed five-year deal. All the paper talk, all Michael Brown’s words on Kalvin’s release clause being “much more” than reported, all that is put to bed by someone definitely in the know when it comes to just what Kalvin Phillips’ contract looks like.
