Luton Town defender Lloyd Jones still has future at the club

Luton Town defender Lloyd Jones still has a future at the club despite being loaned out to Northampton Town, as per a report by Luton Today.

The centre-back was allowed to leave for the Cobblers last month for more game time.

Jones, who is 24 years old, has played just seven times for the Hatters in all competitions this season under Graeme Jones.

The former England Under-20 international moved to Kenilworth Road in January 2018 but has not been a first team regular. He was loaned out to Plymouth Argyle for the second-half of the last campaign as Luton were promoted to the Championship.

Prior to his move to the Hatters, Jones had risen up through the youth ranks at Liverpool and had loan spells away from Anfield at Cheltenham Town, Accrington Stanley, Blackpool and Swindon Town.

Luton boss Jones believes he still has a future at the club and has said, as per Luton Today: “For me he has. I like Lloyd Jones, I just reached a point where I couldn’t gamble anymore with minutes in the Championship.”

“I believe that Lloyd with the correct experience in terms of playing football in League Two and League One, I think he can play in the Championship. I think he’s got the equipment but you can’t go from nothing to the Championship.”

He added: “So I think it’s the right step (going to Northampton) and I’ll be monitoring Lloyd and see where we are at the end of the season.”

Luton are currently bottom of the second tier and are seven points from safety with 16 games to go.
