Derby County boss Phillip Cocu was pleased to see his side overcome a potential slip up against Northampton Town last night.

The Rams have booked their place in the FA Cup Fifth Road after running out 4-2 winners against their League Two opponents. Goals from Andre Wisdom, Duane Holmes, Jack Marriott and Wayne Rooney have set up a mouth watering home tie for the Championship side against Manchester United in the next round.

Nicky Adams and Sam Hoskins got the goals for the Cobblers but their cup run ended at Pride Park last night and Keith Curle’s side can now put their focus back on the league.

Derby’s Cocu was pleased to progress to the next round and spoke to their official club website after the match: “I think we played some very good football and scored four goals, so I think we can be happy tonight.”

“There were maybe some details in the game that we can improve on, but it was a good night overall. We missed some opportunities to get a bigger scoreline but in general if you see how we play our football, there were great dynamics in the team with great movement and passing. I am happy to see that after the Stoke game last Friday (Derby won 4-0) that we can play the same style of football again.”

On facing Manchester United next, Cocu said: “It is a great game for us and that is why we are so happy to be in the Fifth Round. We knew if we beat Northampton that we would play Manchester United here at Pride Park. It is a great game for the team, the fans and the club. We are looking forward to it.”

Derby have now scored eight goals in their past two games and will be eager to continue their recent resurgence when they travel to Wales this weekend to take on Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium.
