Reading boss Mark Bowen reflects on January transfer window

Reading boss Mark Bowen is not too disheartened that his side were not able to bring in a striker in January.

The Royals were in the hunt for a forward with Lucas Joao out with a hamstring injury. However, they were unable to get any deals over the line but Bowen insists he is happy with his current options.

The Championship side managed to sign midfield duo Filipe Araruna and Ayub Masika from Sao Paulo and Beijing Renhe respectively.

Reading were also able to offload players such as Vito Mannone and Marc McNulty so stand in good stead to make a late push for the Play-Offs between now and the end of the season.

Bowen spoke about the unsuccessful search for another striker, as per a report by Berkshire Live: “How many strikers are out there? They have to fit in to what we’re trying to do and be the right quality for us and if you can’t get that quality unfortunately you’ve just got to wait and bide your time until you can. If a deal can’t be done then it can’t be done.”

“You’ve just got to take it on the  chin. But I know I have players here who will give everything they’ve got and I have to use them the best way I can.”

Reading are currently 15th in the Championship and are twelve points off the top six. They could close that gap if they can string a set of results together, starting with a win over Hull City at the Madejski Stadium this weekend.
