Derby County looking to sign Aston Villa youngster Rushian Hepburn-Murphy on loan

Derby County are looking to sign Aston Villa youngster Rushian Hepburn-Murphy on loan until the end of the season according to The Sun.

Hepburn-Murphy is currently on loan at Tranmere Rovers and has impressed which has led to Phillip Cocu believing he can make an impression at a higher level.

Derby are currently ten points adrift of the play-off places and a surge for promotion looks increasingly unlikely however Cocu isn’t giving up hope of going on a run similar to that of Aston Villa last season where they won ten games in a row to win promotion via the play-offs.

Cocu wants to make additions to his squad before the window closes as he looks to improve on his side’s positioning in the league.

Hepburn-Murphy has scored four goals in 17 appearances in League One for Rovers and they will be eager to retain him for the rest of the season.

The youngster has only started eight of those 17 games making his goalscoring record even more impressive considering he hasn’t had much regular football so far in his career.

Derby are reportedly confident that he has the ability to make an impact in the second tier despite the fact that he failed to make an impact for Aston Villa in the Championship and is yet to score for his parent club.

A move to a club in the second tier of English football may be the challenge that the 21-year-old needs in order to showcase his talents at a higher level.
