West Brom youngster Kyle Edwards close to agreeing a new deal with talks at an ‘advanced stage’

West Bromwich Albion youngster Kyle Edwards is close to agreeing a new deal with the club with talks at an ‘advanced stage’ as reported by The Athletic.

The 21-year-old has enjoyed a successful season so far for the Baggies and despite being second choice behind on-loan star Grady Diangana for much of the campaign he has still provided valuable contributions.

The youngster’s deal expires this summer but the club are keen to tie him to a new deal with an agreement close to being agreed.

There are reports that Edwards will sign a contract that will see his wages increase significantly from around £1,000 a week to over £10,000 as a reward for his impressive performances.

Edwards started the game on Saturday in the Emirates FA Cup fourth-round victory over West Ham United and caught the eye as the Midlands side progressed in the competition.

There have been several youngsters to emerge from the academy in recent months with Nathan Ferguson also having broken through into the first-team. Ferguson’s contract is also up in the summer although negotiations over a new deal appear to be a lot more complicated than that of Edwards’.

Romaine Sawyers left the club to join Walsall and subsequently Brentford before returning to the Hawthorns last summer and he is also a product of the West Brom academy.

A new deal for Edwards would be a welcome boost for Albion with them having suffered a lot of frustration in recent months in regards to tying down their youngsters to significantly improved deals.
