Leeds United sign a deal with Adidas as next season’s kit sponsors-mixed emotions from fans.

Not the signing many Leeds United fans would have been waiting for, but a significant one nonetheless. In their hundred year history, Leeds United have had many kit sponsors, from Admiral to Kappa but one particular brand that have never been associated with is Adidas…until now.

Last night, Mail Online reporter David Coverdale broke the news that The whites have indeed agreed a deal with the German sports clothing giants, a significant deal that will see Leeds United don the famous three stripes for the first time in their history.

As the report states, Leeds United have a pulling power that challenges that of even the biggest clubs in Europe, if not even the world, this, along with their recent resurgence in a Premier League promotion push are huge factors in Adidas taking over from Italian brand Kappa as the Whites main sponsor from next season.

Despite what division the West Yorkshire side find themselves in next year, the deal will still be kept, only the value of the deal will change dependant on level, with Leeds jersey sales being one of the highest in the country, even with their second tier status being a deciding factor in this.

The report also claims that Leeds United will look to ditch their current front-of-shirt sponsor next season, with controversy surrounding current sponsors, 32 Red, due to their apparent closer ties with certain clubs within the same division, but their are no hints as to who the new sponsor could be as of yet.

This is certainly a major coup for Leeds United and could possibly generate future transfer revenue, but the response from the fans has inevitably been mixed as they yearn for new players, rather than sponsors, in this months transfer window…
