According to a report from Football Insider, Charlton Athletic have made a new loan offer for Rangers midfielder Greg Docherty, after the pursuit for his signature opened up once again.
As reported by The Herald on Monday, Sunderland and Rangers were unable to come to an agreement over a loan deal for midfielder Greg Docherty. The Black Cats have been keen to bring him in to bolster Phil Parkinson’s midfield options but they were unable to come to an agreement.
Now, the door has opened for new clubs to table their offers, and Charlton Athletic have pounced. It is said that the Addicks have swooped in to make another approach for Docherty, putting them in the lead in the chase for his signature.
While Sunderland have been keen to sign Docherty, Football Insider adds that Shrewsbury Town are also keen on a deal for the midfielder. He previously spent a successful stint with the Shrews and they have held an interest in bringing him back to the club this January.
The 23-year-old has played just six times for Rangers so far this season, with four coming in the Europa League Qualifying Stages – in which he provided three assists – and making one appearance in both the Challenge Cup and Scottish League club.
Docherty spent the 2018/19 campaign on loan in League One, impressing while with Shrewsbury Town. He played 50 times for the Shrews, scoring an impressive 10 goals and providing 11 assists in the process.
Charlton Athletic are in desperate need of reinforcements before the end of the January transfer window so the club will be hoping they are able to come to an agreement over a loan deal for Docherty.
