West Brom set to join the race and battle Leeds United for Rangers defender Connor Goldson

West Bromwich Albion are set to join the race and battle Leeds United for Rangers defender Connor Goldson according to Football Insider.

The Championship league leaders are eyeing a swoop for Goldson as a possible transfer target for either this month or in the summer as they look to add reinforcements ahead of their promotion push.

Goldson has performed consistently well for Steven Gerrard’s Rangers and the Scottish side are eager to retain him but may well face a decision to make with several English sides interested in the defender.

Bilic’s side have struggled somewhat defensively this season and with Kyle Bartley, Semi Ajayi and Ahmed Hegazi as their main senior centre-backs, they are seeking added quality for their central defence.

Fulham and Leeds United are both said to be monitoring Goldson as well with the Championship trio all in line for serious challenges for promotion and a return to the Premier League.

The centre-back has been an ever-present for Gerrard this season and he is rated extremely highly with him having started in almost every match since he took charge at Ibrox despite having three other senior centre-backs on the books.

Goldson cost £3million in a transfer from Premier League side Brighton & Hove Albion and has proven to be excellent value for money with his impressive performances having now caught the eye of many English clubs.

With Leeds and West Brom having both suffered recent slumps in form, fresh faces being added to the squad may just be the boost they need for the second half of the campaign.
