Doncaster Rovers enquired about Mallik Wilks’ availability before his Hull City move

Doncaster Rovers made an enquiry to Barnsley about Mallik Wilks’ availability earlier this month, according to a report by the Doncaster Free Post.

The forward has since joined Hull City on loan with a view to a permanent deal in the summer, reuniting with his former Donny boss Grant McCann.

Wilks, who is 21 years old, spent last season on loan from Leeds United at the Keepmoat Stadium and impressed for the Yorkshire side. He scored 16 goals in all competitions to help them get into the League One Play-Offs.

He left Elland Road on a permanent basis to join Barnsley in July but has found opportunities hard to come by with the Tykes in the first half of the season, hence why he has been allowed to leave Oakwell.

Doncaster were interested in the possibility of bringing him back this winter but Wilks wanted a move to the Championship. He got just that and made his Hull debut in their 1-0 defeat to Derby County at Pride Park on Saturday.

Donny boss Darren Moore has refused to give anything away in regards to transfer dealings and has said, as per the Doncaster Free Press: “We’ve made a lot of enquiries for a lot of players. Mallik Wilks has come up in the press because I believe he was here last year and did well last year. But again, there’s been many players that there’s been enquiries about. I just want to speak about the definites, as and when the definites do come in.”

Wilks could face up against Chelsea on Saturday as the Tigers take on Frank Lampard’s side at the KCOM Stadium in the FA Cup.
