Luton Town want to sign Augsburg’s Reece Oxford on loan for the rest of the season, according to a report by The Sun.

The Hatters have contacted the Bundesliga side about a potential deal and are eager to beat fellow Championship side Middlesbrough to his signature.

Oxford, who is 21 years old, could leave the German side this month for more game time. He has played eight times so far this season for Martin Schmidt’s side.

He joined Augsburg in the summer on a permanent deal from West Ham United having spent the second-half of the last campaign there and penned a four-year deal.

Oxford, who can play in midfield or defence, started out with the Hammers and rose up through their youth ranks. He played 17 times for their first team and also had loan spells away at Reading and Borussia Monchengladbach.

The ex-England Under-20 international was tipped for a massive future as a youngster but has since found opportunities hard to come by in Germany.

A loan move to Luton before the end of the transfer window would be a good opportunity to play more games. The Hatters are currently bottom of the second tier and are four points off safety.

Graeme Jones’ side are in need of some signings over the next couple of weeks to help in their battle for survival and Oxford would be ideal for them. However, they will have to see off interest from Middlesbrough if they are to bring him to Kenilworth Road.
