Martin Samuelsen excited for “new start” at Hull City after move from West Ham United

New Hull City signing Martin Samuelsen has said it was important for him to leave West Ham United on a permanent deal.

The Tigers tied up a move for the Norway international yesterday on a two-and-a-half year deal, with the option for a further year.

Samuelsen, who is 22 years old, has spent the past five years out on from the Hammers with various loan spells with the likes of Peterborough United, Blackburn Rovers, Burton Albion, VVV Venlo and Haugesund.

The promising midfielder worked with Hull boss Grant McCann on loan at Peterborough and has now reunited with him at the KCOM Stadium.

After signing for the Yorkshire side yesterday, Samuelsen told their official club website: “It’s an important move for me and my career. It’s a new start for me – a new club, new team-mates and a new environment. I’m super excited about the challenges that lie ahead.”

“At my age, it was important for me to go somewhere that I’m going to play football at an appropriate level. It will be my third time in the Championship having played on loan at Blackburn Rovers and Burton Albion at this level, so the adaptation process has already started.”

He added: “It’s more important that I get to know my new team-mates and adapt to the team’s style of play but I have proved before that I can play in the Championship and I just can’t wait to get going in a Hull City shirt.”

Samuelsen is in contention to make his debut in the black and amber tomorrow when they take on Derby County at Pride Park. McCann’s men go into the game three points off the Play-Offs.
