Former England international Andy Hinchcliffe claims Kalvin Phillips deserves Three Lions chance

Former England international Andy Hinchcliffe has claimed that Leeds United star Kalvin Phillips deserves a Three Lions chance due to his impressive form, as reported by The Athletic.

Phillips has been an integral part of the Leeds team over the past couple of seasons and is one of the main reasons why they are once again vying for promotion.

There has been plenty of speculation surrounding his future with top Premier League sides like Manchester United all rumoured to have interest in the defensive midfielder.

Phillips did sign a new contract with the Whites a few months ago however, this does contain a release clause of £20million should they not win promotion this season.

The 24-year-old has not represented England at any level, but Hinchcliffe believes the midfielder’s performances are making sure that he is giving Gareth Southgate a decision to make ahead of Euro 2020.

“In terms of England, he’s already playing a Premier League style of football. You’ll see his role being employed by Manchester City and others. He’s already thriving under a coach who would be at home in the Premier League.”

“He’s ready for that level and I’m one of many people who watch him who think he’s worth a go with England. His stats stack up very well and I don’t see many players in his exact position who look much better than him.”

Despite not playing in the Premier League, Hinchcliffe clearly rates Phillips and rightly so. Over the past two years he has been one of the best players in the Championship and Leeds know they simply must win promotion to retain one of their star names.
