Blackburn Rovers are leading the race to sign Portsmouth winger Ronan Curtis, according to a report by Lancashire Live.
Pompey value the highly-rated wide man at £3 million, though Rovers are eager to reduce the price.
Curtis, who is 23 years old, has scored 11 goals so far this season and is out of contract at Fratton Park in the summer. The League One side do hold an option for a further year but are facing a battle to hold onto his services in this transfer window.
He joined Portsmouth in May 2018 for a fee of just £100,000 from Derry City and has become a hit with Kenny Jackett’s side. He chipped in with 11 goals in his debut season last term.
Curtis’ form has also attracted the Republic of Ireland set-up of whom he has now made three caps for at international level.
Blackburn boss Tony Mowbray has admitted he is being cautious in the transfer window, as per Lancashire Live: “We have to be careful in order to get the timing of everything right because you don’t want to potentially, end up being short on players. I want to improve the squad in every transfer window, if I can.”
“If we did have £20m to spend, I probably would just give them the few million that they wanted and get things wrapped up quickly in order to give the new players the chance to integrate sooner into the squad, despite knowing that we’d have paid over the odds. They’d help us get to where we want to be sooner, but that’s not the reality of the budget we have.”
Curtis would be ideal for Rovers this month, but getting him out of Portsmouth could prove tough.
